The Tachinid fly

TheTachinid fly (Dejeania sp.) parasatises the larvae of insects such as the cut worm and other caterpillars by laying its eggs on the larvae. When the eggs hatch they consume the host. This greatly assists in the natural control of these pests. Although the Tachinid is a large, hairy and unattractive looking fly it is a welcome visitor to the garden.
