The Crab Spider

The crab spider [Thomisidae] does not hunt its prey but ambushes it. It is a master at camouflage and often very closely resembles the flower upon which it patiently sits awaiting its prey. Unsuspecting insects fearlessly land on the flower, only to be pounced upon by the spider which grabs its prey with its strong forelegs before injecting venom. Body length 4 - 5 mm.
